Id have to say, having dined at Atera, Eleven Madison Park, Alinean and the like, id be surprised if Square Root wont recieve a star anytime soon. Best meal in my life, will come back anytime.

Awesome rooftop bar with a great vista of the NOLA downtown skyline. We stopped here after dinner for a quick (and quiet) drink before heading back to our hotel, and it was a great evening to just sit and hang out. The charcuterie situation here looked delicious, and if we weren't so full from dinner, we may have considered it. Definitely a good place to go with friends since seating was abundant and sharing seems to be encouraged!

Another great evening at this amazing bar/restaurant. The new menu items include a creative twist on Frito Pie (made with seared duck hearts) and a Lobster Burger (puréed lobster and shrimp formed into a burger shape served on a delicious homemade bun) Served with a side of "fries". Both dishes were delicious, but if I had to pick, the Frito Pie was better. Maybe the most delicious dish that I have had at this restaurant. Chef Lopez and his team never disappoint with new creative menu options here...

This was my first time at The Root. The ambiance was great, a nice quiet place. I had the smoked scallops at the suggestion of the waiter. When the dish first came out, I thought the waiter had made a mistake because the dish came out in what looked like a cigar box. Once the waiter opened the box, it was indeed what I ordered. It was absolutely delicious, although by the end my mouth did taste like I smoked a cigar. The service was a bit slow which was surprising because the restaurant was not busy at all since it was a Monday. I would definitely return to this restaurant again.

HH specialty drinks for 4-6$! That's a steal for the crafted cocktails, which are all delicious! I would say I am in love with this place. The outside balcony is perfect for cool nights! Deviled Eggs: So tasty I could eat all six by myself. I wish all six were topped with the crisp though! Lamb Meatball: Its okay. The red sauce is pretty tasty but not as flavorful as a handful of others that I've had. The pasta was cooked al dente. Meatball is a lot leaner & actually reminded me of pho meatballs! lol if you must try anything, try their cured meats! It's all in house/ homemade and so delicious! Second best charcuterie board in NOLA! The accompaniments are so unique too! This place will definitely become one of the hottest spots in town! Just to mention, the service & bartenders were awesome! Everyone was very accommodating & wonderful. They definitely made our experience unique.

A group of us monopolized the lovely upstairs lounge at Square Root on Wednesday evening for René D's birthday - I cannot think of a better place to be on a Wednesday evening for happy hour. Hell, I may even have my own birthday happy hour here. It's as if you get your own private room, only you may get a visit from the cool kids who venture on up here because they know Root 2 is that awesome. Lest I move away from the HH specials too soon, know that there's an array of half price cocktails, decent wines and beers on there. I chose a Lambrusco that's on the dry side. This ain't grandma's Lambrusco, though! You know, that stuff that tasted like fizzy grape juice and is so sweet you can already feel the hangover after one glass? Yeah, not that. It regularly goes for 10 a glass, which is fine, but even better at 5! What a sweet, sweet deal. The bartenders are all wonderful, attentive and can whip up a mean drink. It's kinda magical because they chill the glasses with dry ice. I love bells and whistles! But seriously, I had a taste of some of their specialty cocktails and they are unique and tasty. The entire upstairs staff is just so nice and welcoming. I'm just saying this because there are so many places these days where the staff is no such thing and you feel like you're being granted a favor just to drink there. I look forward to the evening when it's warm enough to sit out on that idyllic balcony, by the way. If I lived in the area, this would so be my regular joint. And if I were still eating cheese, those cheese boards would make me weep with joy. Sadly, not much in the way of vegan options, but I didn't ask...

One of the best experiences I have had since moving to Nola. Incredible. The charcuterie is the best I have ever had. We caught the tail end of happy hour so our normally $12/glass of wine was $5. You can really eat affordably here (for Nola prices). The server knowledge was incredible. We had a young lady as or server with pink/purple hair and she was fantastic! We will be back and do our people watching from the balcony!

This is a review for Root², the upstairs bar. We were early for our reservation at Square Root so we headed upstairs to check out Root². Square Root, on the first floor, is a chef's table restaurant that seats 16 people. Root², on the second floor, is a bar and serves charcuterie plates as well. On to my review: Root² is a nice space and we very much enjoyed watching the bartenders creating drinks. We could have easily sat in the bar area and just had drinks and charcuterie while watching the staff ply their craft. As a side note, for fans of Game of Thrones , the charcuterie chef looks a little similar to a character, but I won't spoil it and tell you which one. After our dinner downstairs, we went back up to Root² and sat on the balcony and ordered a the chefs cheese plate and another round of drinks. Service was impeccable while not intrusive. Even our water glasses were always topped off. The cheese plate was presented beautifully and the cheeses were lovely. The lavash bread that is served with it matched perfectly. If I was forced to put down something negative of Root² is that the bearded bartender dropped the cap to the Crème de violette on the floor and picked it up and replaced it on the bottle. I'm sure the alcohol kills germs and probably it falls within the 5 second rule anyway. Again, this is nit picky and I only mention it as the only negative.

Color me confused because I did not realize Root squared and Square Root were two different establishments. Glad my friends finally got it through my thick head. So, yes, this is the upstairs bar above the fancy restaurant. And the atmosphere is lovely and spacious. You can even eat bar snacks (which are pretty meat heavy) and make a meal of it. I did sample the enormous (and delicious) Big Cheese plate; it had interesting selections and a nice number of accompaniments, fruit, nuts, bread, etc. I also had the deviled eggs which included shrimp. They were tasty but not my favorite. The old fashioneds though. Oh my those were good and at HH prices (5-7 pm), yes please. The staff was lovely. The space is inviting. There is a wacky toilet paper art installation in the restrooms. Really great spot to be fancy while having some food and drinks. Hard to believe I bought one of my favorite tables at this location just a few years ago. The transformation is amazing.

Such an unassuming spot. Judging by the entrance area, you would not think the 2nd floor was this cool. The bartenders were a little scatter brained, but I just figured they were all new. I like modern spots where you can eat dinner and have drinks or just socialize. The sofa area is really nice to entertain guests (in your non house) LOL. We ordered a cheese and charterie plate and deviled eggs during Happy Hour. The bartenders mix nice handcrafted drinks. You can tell they are not the average bartenders, just a little nervous to have company! You have to make a reservation to sit on the first level and eat dinner. I don't like that. Wasn't really crowded, so why harp on appointments. I will be back because I really like the location. It's really near the bridge AND it's a great atmosphere.

We went there for birthday party. The best concept, service and food I ever experienced in New Orleans. The price is very inexpensive for the service they offer. Way to go guys!!

The upstairs space at Square Root is being branded as "Root Squared" and is a more casual place to hang out with a cocktail or glass of wine and some charcuterie or small plates. It's a very refined space with a large bar, a few tables, a couch, and a large outdoor deck with quite a few tables that overlook Magazine Street. The charcuterie is very high end, cheese options are limited but pretty good, and there are a couple appetizer-type items including an excellent roasted carrot salad. As at Root, the charcuterie plates have a large range accompanying items including various pickled fruits which can be anywhere from outstanding to average. The bartenders are truly artists, the wine list is pretty good, and the glass/stemware is high end. As are the prices, but it's roughly in line with other places in the same genre around town. The Square Root space downstairs looks amazing (but extremely pricey) so the upstairs Root Squared space will be my preferred hangout in this location. Very well done.

So, awkward turtle, Max Messier no longer works here. SO BE IT, because T. Cole Newton and Christine Nielsen are amazing replacements! Drinks are still delightfully unique and delicious.

This was a great time! Came in on a Wednesday night with my SO. The place was quiet - only a handful of people, downstairs and up on the balcony; we were the only people inside on the second floor. The service was GREAT, and the staff was super friendly and chatty without being overbearing or intrusive. The charcuterie guy (sorry, didn't catch your name!) was awesome. He let us sample a few different cheeses before deciding on one for our charcuterie board, which he then loaded up with all types of amazing pickled & preserved extras (the peaches=amazing!) We ended up staying for almost 2 hours. They were clearly closing up shop, but at no point did I feel rushed or like I was staying past my welcome. The place isn't cheap, but it's worth it for the atmosphere, food, and service

The service was spotty at best. There was one bartender who was on the ball, but the number of people had him overwhelmed most of the time. When I ordered my beer he made about 4 mixed drinks for people who ordered after me before he remembered to grab my drink. Worked my way outside to my group and decided to order food. The server blatantly ignored us trying to get his attention to take our order for a good 20 minutes, but continued to serve tables that only has 2-4 people seated. We finally had someone track him down to come take our order. After that he brought our food, asked if we needed anything, then disappeared. He sporadically checked on us, but acted as if it was a chore rather than his job. He never cleared our plates, he forgot to bring cutlery to people who ordered when they arrived, and he kept forgetting to bring the checks. All in all the food was amazing, but the service was horrible and the whole staff needed a change of attitude. I was excited to try somewhere new in New Orleans, but this place left a lot to be desired.

The upstairs was open & it was a wonderful evening to sit outside on the deck. I had the lemon banana dessert which was different than anticipated being NOLA it was still quite tasty. The staff was friendly & our waiter was adorable having just relocated from NOLA. The bartender was knowledgeable about the local restaurant/bar scene. This is a great place to end a wonderful NOLA day w/a little dessert, tasty drinks & wonderful service.

If somebody tells you about this place. GO HERE! Do not hesitate. Drop what you're doing - walk, run, drive or drag yourself by your damned fingernails if you have to. You will thank yourself. Max makes something called the Volpino which needs to be had if you appreciate excellence in your drinks. Meat and cheese platters that are so good, you will weep harder than James Van Der Beek? Yep, they have them. It's enough to make a vegan stumble and grin at the guilt - remembering that forbidden and ecstatic moment where they fell. Please just go here. YOLO you cute bastards.

This is exactly where you want to be for happy hour to catch the sunsets from the balcony. Get here before the Loy-lane students take it over. I do wish the happy hour was longer than just two hours, though. The attention to service is impeccable--makes you want to never leave. Not a lot seats other than the bar stools, which require some skill to fit comfortably....or just have one of their cocktails and you'll stop worrying about it. Please note, falling off the stool is a strong possibility. Did I mention the balcony--super key.

my husband and I very much enjoyed our hand crafted cocktails & appetizers here. Beautiful, chic restaurant with even more beautiful food. I had a salad that was amazing. From the bar, I watched them roast the pumpkin slivers that were in it!! They truly appreciate the importance of taste & design of their dishes along with using fresh, seasonal ingredients. Next time we plan on eating downstairs for the set course menu!

I'd like to give a very belated shout out to Root Squared. A few months ago, myself and six hungry, thirsty friends headed here on a Friday night. The weather was lovely and we were lucky enough to snag two adjacent balcony tables. The service was exceptional - to the point where even if the food hadn't been any good (but it was), they would have already won me over. Their staff is attentive (but not over-the-top like some pretentious places that are almost too fancypants for their own good) and extremely knowledgeable. As we were seated, the waiter offered us all a round of happy hour priced drinks (without any of us asking), even though most of us had actually arrived after the happy hour window had closed. The way to my heart is through my liver btw. My cocktail was excellent - a negroni with prosecco instead of gin. For food, we started with the chef's charcuterie board. We had requested they include some cured fish in addition to all the meat (don't hate me, but I only eat seafood). This message somehow got miscommunicated to the kitchen and the board arrived sans fish. We alerted the waiter and about 5 minutes later the chef came out with a gigantic portion of cured salmon (it was incredible - flavor and texture were divine and the portion was huge). He apologized for not including it in the first place, which was not a big deal but his efforts to fix the situation were greatly appreciated. The chef patiently explained all the ingredients involved in creating each meat (lots of intricate details). This guy was a total meat nerd and I liked it. You could tell their was a lot of energy, time, and most importantly love in what he was doing. He disappeared and then came back with a smorgasbord of pickled veggies and mushrooms. He had opened up jars of canned veggies specifically for us to taste. I was now starting to almost feel guilty with all the attention - but in all seriousness, I was very impressed with the consideration they give their guests. We all ordered a few small plates in addition to the meat board - I had a squash blossom salad that was pretty good. Everyone was happy with their choices. If i remember correctly there was a lamb rigotoni that was a hit (this is why you should review places immediately and not wait a few months). We'll be back for sure. Thanks Root Squared for your delicious food and impeccable service. I felt like I was in good hands throughout the whole dining experience and their passion for food is blatantly clear.
